What Makes Dental Implants The Right Fit For You?

A dental implant consists of a small piece of titanium that will be implanted directly into your gums and jaw. Titanium is biocompatible, which means it has the unique ability to bond permanently with the surrounding tissue.

Single-tooth implants are the most common type of dental implant. They use a single implant and a dental crown to restore one missing tooth. Mini implants are similar to single-tooth implants, but they are much smaller, so the placement process is less invasive.

Dental implants have a long lifespan of 30+ years. They also do not require any special care beyond regular brushing and flossing, and routine oral exams and teeth cleanings*. In addition, your dental implants will look and feel completely natural and will never shift or move.

Dental implants help preserve your jaw bone and prevent bone resorption. Because they function like an artificial tooth root, they stimulate your jaw when you chew, eat and bite. This keeps your jaw strong after tooth loss.

With Our Team at Dulles Life Smiles, You’ll Enjoy Professional Care Every Step Of The Way

The process begins with a comprehensive consultation, where Dr. Gino will develop your implant placement plan using x-rays** and digital imaging. At your next appointment, your implant will be placed.

Your placement appointment will begin by cleaning and numbing the treatment area. You can also be sedated, if you wish. Then, he will create a precise opening based on your placement plan to insert the implant in your gums and jaw bone. Next, he will clean the area and suture it closed.

You’ll then be sent home to heal and recover. The initial healing process takes only about 2 weeks, but it will take 3-6 months for your implant to full bond with your jaw bone.

After your implant has been placed, you’ll come in for several follow-up appointments to check your progress. During this time, Dr. Gino will take dental impressions and images of your mouth, and begin developing your implant restoration, (typically a dental crown).

Once your mouth has fully healed and your implant restoration has been created, Dr. Gino will check the implant restoration to ensure that it fits properly. Then, it will be bonded into place, completing the procedure.
